I’m not sure about you, but when I learned that our subconscious minds were responsible for 95% of our reality I was shook! Not only that but the beliefs stored in our subconscious are typically formed by the age of seven.
On some level that means we’re all just walking around making decisions from our child brain! Being aware of this is key because it gives you the opportunity to identify those beliefs and work toward building new ones that actually serve you.
What is the Subconscious Mind?
The subconscious mind is the part of our brain that is wired to keep us safe. You can think of it as the primal brain or our protector brain. It’s responsible for deleting, distorting, and generalizing all of the information that our brain processes on a day-to-day basis, filtering through only what is deemed “important” to us.
Whenever you feel as if you’ve done something on auto-pilot it’s because you’ve done it so many times your subconscious takes the lead. It’s also the reason why whenever you express interest in something (like a new car) you suddenly see that item everywhere.
Being able to access our subconscious mind provides us with the opportunity to input new and more supportive information.
Journal Prompts to Access the Subconscious Mind
- How are you feeling right now? What sensations are these emotions creating in your body?
- Write down every thought that pops into your head for 10 minutes or until you run out of thoughts
- What is one desire that is on your mind right now?
- What does your current reality look like? what does this say about your current beliefs?
- What belief systems do you want to have?
- If you could have, be, or do anything you wanted in life without consequence or without hurting anyone, what would it be?
- Is there an example of someone who is living your dream life right now? What do they do? how do you think they show up in their day-to-day life?
- What does the highest version of you look like? the version of you who has accomplished all of your goals, how does she show up every day?
- What limiting beliefs and negative thoughts come up when thinking about your higher self? do you believe that reality is possible for you, why or why not?
- When have your goals not worked out for you in the past? what was the outcome?
- When have your goals worked out for you in the past? what was the outcome?
What’s Next?
Now that you’ve reached your subconscious you want to continue with mindset work so that you’re able to “reprogram” your subconscious with more supportive thoughts and beliefs. You can do this with things like therapy, visualization and meditation, EFT tapping, and breathwork.
