“Mindset” is a buzzword that gets thrown around a lot, but do you understand what it means? or how to have a mindset shift? Our mindset isn’t just related to career goals and success, it shows up in all areas of our life. A healthy mindset is key to our overall personal development, if you’re curious about mindset we got you!
This post shares 3 Signs You’re Ready for a Mindset Shift
Your mindset is defined as a set of beliefs that shape your behavior, actions, and view of the world. We can further define mindset as being “positive” or “negative”, and “fixed” vs “growth”. A positive or growth mindset is expansive. You’re likely open to solutions, believe in abundant possibilities, and see the positive side of most situations. With a negative or fixed mindset, you’re more rigid and restrictive. You may not believe there are solutions, have a lack mentality, and focus on the negatives. If you want to identify which type of mindset you have try starting a thought log for a week, at the end of the week you can read through your thoughts and assess where you’re at.
3 Signs You’re Ready for a Mindset Shift
1. You’re Always Complaining
Girl, I get it, sometimes life is life-ing. If you find yourself complaining all of the time though, it’s going to start affecting your outcomes. When you complain often your brain starts searching for more reasons to complain. You get trapped in a negative loop. An example of this is how you wake up in the morning. If the first thing you think or say out loud is a complaint, “I didn’t get enough sleep” you’ve started your day with a lack mindset. Your brain is going to spend the day looking for more reasons to complain and for other areas of lack.
2. You’re Shaming and Blaming
Do you catch yourself saying things like I “should” have done this, or I “could” have done that? That’s called shaming and blaming sis and it’s messing with your mindset. When we’re stuck in these thought patterns it’s because we’re putting too much pressure on ourselves. We’re blaming ourselves for our “failures” and we’re keeping ourselves stuck in the past. We believe that something could have turned out a different way if it wasn’t for our actions or lack of action. This prevents us from looking toward the future or moving forward positively.
3. You’re Stuck in Comparison
Those early morning doom scrolls are messing with your mindset! With social media, there are 10x the amount of opportunities to compare ourselves. If you find yourself constantly comparing your life and success to others, you’re not alone. Comparison is normal, our brain loves to compare and collect data to understand reality. When comparison starts to drag you down and make you feel bad about yourself it’s because you either a) don’t believe you can have what they have too or b) you don’t believe you’re worthy of it.
How to Build a Healthy Mindset
- Start a Gratitude Practice
Gratitude will help you overcome comparison and create a more expansive mindset. When you’re feeling jealous of someone or something that’s your brain signaling a desire to you! You can choose to appreciate the emotion for showing you this desire instead of dwelling on it. You can also use gratitude to heal your comparison and jealousy by feeling grateful for the person you’re jealous of. If someone has something you desire then that is proof that what you desire is possible. How did they achieve or acquire what you desire? They’ve mapped out the blueprint for you! - Use Affirmations
Affirmations are an excellent way to build a healthier mindset. When you’re trapped in negative thought loops those starts are going to start to cement themselves as beliefs. You are then taking action from those limiting and negative belief systems. Over time affirmations can shift your negative thoughts into positive ones. If you have access to therapy or mental health support you should take advantage of it. Personal growth tools and techniques are amazing, being able to share your process and results from these tools with a licensed professional will take your mindset to the next level.
