Learning to practice gratitude is an invaluable skill that will improve all aspects of your life Gratitude isn’t just an emotion that you experience, it’s also a practice and a way of being.
True gratitude isn’t just individual but communal, it’s not used to manipulate or shame and it’s an exchange of energy. When we learn how to tap into true gratitude, we change not just our world but the world around us.
What is a Gratitude Mindset
When we think about mindset we think about either a growth or fixed mindset. A fixed mindset is rigid, lacks imagination, and doesn’t seek solutions. If you have a fixed mindset you’re probably familiar with terms like “that’s just the way it is”. A growth mindset is the opposite. A growth mindset is expansive, imaginative, and always seeking solutions. If you have a growth mindset you believe that change is possible.
Gratitude expands what’s possible for us. When we appreciate something we have in our life we create more of that thing. Think about the last time you went to a birthday party and gave someone a gift, were they over the moon? did they say a big thank you? I bet that reaction lit you up. It made you want to gift them again in the future. That’s how the universe feels when we show our appreciation for what we have.
A gratitude mindset is all about appreciation and expansiveness. We know that appreciating what we have does not mean we’re settling, it means we are creating more of what we want. We believe that change and growth are not just possible but inevitable.

3 Simple Ways to Practice Gratitude Daily
1. Gratitude Journal
This is one of the simplest ways to practice gratitude. Your gratitude journal can operate in a couple of ways. You can use it as a place to jot down your daily list of gratitude either in the morning or at the end of your day. You can also dive deeper and express your thoughts on gratitude what you’re grateful for and why.
Journaling can feel a bit overwhelming if you don’t do it regularly, you might even catch yourself trying to edit what you write. If this is you start with jotting down your gratitudes in list form, and work your way up from there.
Keep reading and we’ll share some gratitude journal prompts that you can use as a guide as well.
2. Gratitude Affirmations
If writing isn’t your thing, try affirmations! Gratitude affirmations are a powerful way to shift your internal thoughts and belief systems while tapping into gratitude. They can be said out loud or you can meditate while reciting them in your head.
A fun way to use gratitude affirmations is by playing Gabby Bernstein’s “appreciation game”. This is where you and a friend/partner or maybe even just yourself name what you appreciate about each other out loud until you run out of things to share.
3. Gratitude Jar
Using a gratitude jar is one of my all-time favorite ways to practice gratitude! Grab a mason jar (or a small box) and anytime something happens that sparks gratitude, write it on a strip of paper and stick it inside the jar. You can customize your jar so that it feels unique to you and matches your home decor. I like to keep my jar for the entire year and open it up on New Year’s Eve to read all the great things that happened that year. You could use your jar for whatever length of time feels good to you, maybe you open it at the end of each month or maybe you wait a year like me.
