This post is all about How to Spark Motivation in 3 Effective Ways
Picture this; you wake up feeling inspired and ready for the day. Productivity is your middle name and you actually feel EXCITED about the tasks ahead. No more sluggish mornings, no more struggle with motivation.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed by our daily to-do lists, or even completely shut down and lose all motivation. If this sounds like where you’re at right now, keep reading!
Motivation vs Momentum
We can’t talk about motivation without discussing momentum. There’s a common misconception that if you’re falling behind it’s because you lack motivation, when actually what you lack is MOMENTUM.
We are all motivated, and we all have our purpose and our “why” (the BIG reason we’re working toward a goal). What we lack at times is momentum.
Momentum can be defined as a “state of motion” in terms of our goals it’s the energy or motion we’re taking toward a goal. Once you build momentum that momentum will fuel your motivation, and you build momentum by JUST GETTING STARTED.
You don’t need perfect action, you just need action! One step at a time will build momentum which will then energize you and create motivation.
3 Ways to Spark Motivation
1. Inner Child Activities
If you want to feel motivated as heck try getting the little you fired up! What are the activities you LOVED as a kid? Maybe it was making forts, or maybe it was putting your bare feet in the grass and playing outside.
Getting the “little you” excited sparks joy and when we follow our joy we create excitement and momentum (i.e. motivation!). Spend some time with your inner child, ask them what they need, ask them what they love, ask what fuels them, and creates excitement! then give that to yourself.
Ideas for inner child activities:
- Go to build a bear and get yourself a new stuffy! Record some self-love affirmations in the bear.
- Spend the day at an amusement park, get your face painted, and get some ice cream!
- Invite your besties over for a slumber party, bring sleeping bags in the living room, and order pizza.
- Have a board game night and play all the games you played as a kid.
2. Tapping into Creativity
Building off of inner child activities; lean into creativity and creative energy. We’re all creative beings, even if you’re not an artist or traditional creative. Humans thrive off of creative energy, we all want to create SOMETHING on some level.
The creative energy that you’ll cultivate from exploring your creativity will build momentum and motivation! Don’t be afraid to try a new class, paint with your hands, or cook a new recipe. You have no idea what passions creative activities may spark.
Ideas for tapping into creativity:
- Attend a paint night.
- Try your hand at a floral workshop.
- Take a beginner carpentry class.
- Learn a new language.
- Go to a cooking class, and make pizzas or pasta from scratch!
3. Your Big 3
As we mentioned, motivation is actually about momentum. If you want to spark motivation you have to build momentum first, and you can do this by setting “your big 3”. What are three tasks that if completed will make you feel accomplished and will move the needle on your goal?
Rather than creating a long to-do list, assign yourself three main tasks. once they’re completed you’ll feel fired up (momentum!) and ready to take on more. You can also try reframing your to-do list to be a “get-to-do” list. This simple shift in language will tell your brain that these are things you WANT to do and not items that feel like a burden.
If you’re lacking motivation, try utilizing the tips from this blog post! Prioritize momentum, explore creativity and play, and assign your big 3 to your “get-to-do” list.
