POV: You wake up in the morning, your feet hit the floor and you stroll into the kitchen. The kettle gets turned on for your morning cup of tea, and you snuggle in your robe on the balcony with a journal and a cute pen. As you breathe in the morning air you think about how lucky you are to have these 10 minutes to yourself each morning. You open your journal and start writing down all of the things you’re grateful for that morning and it immediately puts you into a high-vibe state for the rest of your day.
Doesn’t that sound amazing? that’s what happens when you romanticize your life, suddenly the simplest parts of your day feel like something to be grateful for. I used to be someone who did the opposite, always finding little things to complain about, forever thinking my life wasn’t good enough. I didn’t want to be a miserable b*tch anymore, and I don’t want that for you either.
Practicing gratitude, meditating, and working on my mindset absolutely changed my life. Let’s change yours too!
What is a Gratitude Practice?
A gratitude practice is an activity or ritual that you perform to showcase your gratitude and appreciation. There are so many ways to practice gratitude! read our post “5 Ways to Practice Gratitude and Live Happily” to learn a few.
Easy Morning Gratitude Practice
Personal development doesn’t need to be hard, it can be easy! and starting a gratitude practice is one of the easiest entry points to personal growth. Feeling good should be accessible and not gate-keeped.
If you’re at the start of your journey then this practice is for you. When you wake up in the morning rather than grabbing your phone and doom-scrolling, take a minute for yourself. Close your eyes and take a deep breath, acknowledge that you woke up today, and that alone is something to be immensely grateful for. Make yourself a warm team (or coffee) and get cozy, whether that’s with a blanket or robe or basking in the sun on your balcony.
With a journal and pen write the following prompts and fill out your gratitudes:
- What are you most excited about today?
- What tangible things are you currently most grateful for?
- What intangible things are you currently most grateful for?
These prompts will help you create a gratitude list for the day and immediately put you into a higher vibrational state. I like to write both tangible and intangible gratitudes because sometimes one may be easier for us to list than the other. There will always be days when we feel like we have nothing to be grateful for, these prompts help us to see that we do. If you can list something you’re tangibly grateful for like your phone that gives you access to communicating with family and friends, then it might be easier to think of something intangible like your compassion.
How to Practice Gratitude Every Morning
Building a new habit requires two things
- commitment
- practice
If you want to practice gratitude every day then you have to commit to practicing every day. What would committing to gratitude every day mean to you? what would it look like? is it something that’s sustainable? You can try journalling on your intention and even blocking off time in your calendar each day to state your commitment. Then you just need to practice by showing up for yourself each day. Maybe you’re writing your gratitudes down one day and just verbalizing them to yourself another. As long as you’re showing up and staying committed it will eventually become second nature and a regular part of your routine.
