Joining the sober curious movement this year? Read on for 7 Sobriety Resources for Women.
Did anyone else have a moment during the pandemic where you realized all your “hobbies” revolved around going to the bar? 😅 It’s no secret that self-help, wellness, and even sobriety have become a focus for so many since the start of the pandemic. Being forced into isolation left most of us alone with ourselves, our thoughts, and our habits (yeah… it got dark). It was a reflective period where we could assess what was working for us and what wasn’t, and for many of us, we decided that what wasn’t working was alcohol.
This post is all about 7 Sobriety Resources for Women.
Sobriety for Women
In Quit like a Woman author Holly Whitaker makes the valid point that for a long time, AA has been the only or main sobriety resource, and unfortunately, it was not built with women or underrepresented groups in mind. AA has historically been a boys club, a place where white men in particular could gather and discuss their addiction in a way that was only meant to resonate with them. It also has strong religious undertones that not everyone may align with.
There is a lot of pressure on women to drink, we see it everywhere from mommy wine culture to bachelorette parties and rose all-day picnics. Society is somewhat obsessed with alcohol, and it’s been sucking women into this culture. Fortunately, we’re starting to see sober and sober curious communities popping up everywhere, sobriety has even been named one of the biggest health trends for 2023.
So where can you find these sober communities? …

Quit like a Woman
Be prepared for the way you view alcohol to shift entirely after reading this book! Chrissy Teigen recommended this book on her socials when she announced that she had given up alcohol. It also made an appearance in the Sex in the City reboot “And Just Like That”. This book really dives behind the curtain of the alcohol industry and exposes the wizard pulling at the strings. The author also poses deep questions like why are we waiting until we hit rock bottom to question our relationship with alcohol? who is AA really for? and are women being targeted by big alcohol?
